Luis Moreno (PHL) qualifies for the GR GT Cup Asia Regional slot after finishing 3rd place in the Philippine National Finals.
Although Luis won the 2021 edition of the series, this would be Moreno’s first GT Cup Asia Regional run due to various rule changes by the local body during the previous years.
The Philippine National Finals consisted of 3 stages with different car and track combos, one including a rally stage. It also features an increasing points multiplier per stage adding to the challenge.
Race 1 was a straightforward race using the Toyota GR86 at Trial Mountain where Luis finished 2nd.
Meanwhile Race 2 was a rally stage using the GR Yaris at Sardegna Windmills where Moreno only managed 4th.
Race 3 saw drivers take on Mount Panorama on the GR Supra Gr.4 car where Luis clinched P3 after a last lap pass at the Conrod straight and thus securing a spot in the Regional Finals this month.
“I am happy to have finally made it to the TGR Regional finals after a couple of missed years”, says Luis. “This season was a tougher one as it had a Rally stage I am not used to and also very punishing with the penalty system applied.
For the national finals, I focused on getting as much points as possible on the circuit races and avoiding incidents, and I am glad to have pulled it off to make it to the regionals where it matters the most.”
Luis Moreno will be joining Andika Rama Maulana (IDN) as one of the first two confirmed drivers from Legion of Racers squad taking part in the GR GT Cup Asia Regional Finals on September 24.
“It’s great to see Luis getting a slot into Asia and joining Andika Rama there. The goal now is to have both drivers performing well for the competition”, says Melvin Moh, the co-founder of Legion of Racers.
