28 November 2022: Andika Rama Maulana showed a strong performance in the Toyota Gazoo Racing GT Cup World Finals which was held in Monaco. Rama became one of the racers from Southeast Asia to qualify in the final round of the special TGR regional activities qualification round. In his first appearance, he competed with racers skilled in Gran Turismo 7 such as Igor Fraga from Brazil and Takuma Miyazono from Japan.
In the semifinals, Rama managed to finish in second place after managing to avoid an incident involving multiple cars. His strong finishing puts him 4th on the grid in the finals, the only racer from Southeast Asia. Unfortunately, a technical issue in the finals where his game froze immediately after the start forced him to retire, ending his hopes of any good results.
Regarding his unlucky result in the final round, Rama admitted that he was very disappointed, but he tried to learn the lessons behind this tragic incident. "It was mixed feelings for me. In the semifinals, I did a great job starting in P6 and finishing in P2, proud of myself at that point. But all the positives suddenly went negative in the Grand Final. We faced a technical issue where the game froze, which made us DNF. To be honest, I'm still not happy about the decision, but it's racing. Sometimes it's good, and sometimes it's more than worst, but anyway, I get good experience, and I get a new motivation, so maybe next year I can try to push more in the GT World Series. Let's see," said Rama.
Melvin Moh, co-founder of LOR said that although he was saddened by the technical problems experienced by Rama, he admitted that he was very proud of the results of the race. “Rama produced a very strong performance and it's great to see that he can compete with the best around the world.
"The final was heartbreaking with the technical issue but that's part of sim racing. Regardless of the result, we are very proud of Rama”
The TOYOTA GAZOO Racing GT Cup is a global series in which the GR lineup, including GR road vehicles and dedicated racing cars, will participate in competitive racing throughout the season. By changing the car model in each round such as GR Supra, GR Yaris, GR86, etc., players can enjoy virtual racing with various cars that cannot be realized in actual motorsports.
